Michael's Monthly Message - October 2007
Dear Family, Friends and Supporters:
Welcome to my monthly message for October 2007!
First, don't eat too much candy this Halloween. Heck, if my daughters only knew how much of their candy their Mother and me use to take from their bags after they went to sleep Halloween night they would be furious. But it was just too much candy for young kids. Boy, I really miss taking them trick or treating but it will always be a memory close to my heart. And second, I want to give a quick "Happy Birthday" to my dad and my ex-wife who both happen to be Libras.
On October 30th at the Agganis Arena in Boston, Australian Pink Floyd will be having a concert. I have watched two of their concerts on PBS and was impressed with how well they perfected Pink Floyd songs. They really do put on an excellent show. In addition most of you probably didn't know that Pink Floyd is my favorite band, and I was actually fortunate enough to see Roger Waters twice and David Gilmour once before I was incarcerated which was a dream come true.
To me, there is no other classic rock group that comes close to the intensity of Pink Floyd. Their music simply goes straight to the core of your soul and makes you realize how truly complex life is. They definitely were ahead of their time and though most fans love "Dark Side of the Moon" or "The Wall" which both are phenomenal; my personal favorite is "Wish You Were Here." Although "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" is awesome too. And then there's Led Zeppelin which many would argue is a better group. However, many don't understand that Pink Floyd didn't sing love songs, they sang life songs. Their music is deep and that's why I love their music ----- so welcome to the machine.
Of course, I also have favorite female singers that have written some incredibly beautiful songs too. Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, Diana Krall and Enya are quite outstanding! And, we can't forget the seriously talented "Jewel." She is absolutely awesome with lyrics and if you get the chance don't miss her special PBS soundstage, it's great. Plus, Tony Bennett has a special duets CD coming out which I highly recommend.
On a different note, Don't forget "The Warriors in Pink" because it's breast cancer awareness month and if there is some way you can show your support, please do! It's a shame women have to deal with this risk.
There still is no response from the Attorney General's office concerning my federal habeas but the new deadline is October 9th so we will see. And the NEIP is still working hard.
Also, I'm still at SBCC and it seems only the Lord knows when I will be transferred.
Before I give my movie recommendation and profound quote, I want you all to know I'm not some holier than thou guru that is giving empowered wisdom each month. It's just, after having my life destroyed right before my eyes ----- and now having plenty of time to reflect on every mistake I made and everything I took for granted, I've been able to see the deeper and more important meaning of life.
With that said, my movie recommendation is: "The World's Fastest Indian" starring Anthony Hopkins. If you are over fifty you will absolutely love this movie. And no, it's not about Native Americans. But I promise you will witness Anthony Hopkins' best performance as an actor. The movie portrays true determination, friendship, respect and an understanding of when it's okay to bend the rules. This is a must see!
My profound quote is: "Eventually, you will learn to respect the things you took for granted." (Black Crow).
Until next month --- take care and remember; the answers to the mysteries of life hide in the pain of our most difficult experience.
Love and light to all,
Michael
